Child of God, Child of Sin

"Child of God, Child of Sin" plexiglass, pen and cardboard
This piece is the most personal to me. In it, I depict myself in three different poses, my hands pulling and ripping at my body with the turmoil of being raised religious in a church and a family who hates me for my identity. The positive labels I was granted as a child were replaced by judgments. I went from a Child of God to a Child of Sin in the eyes of Christians around me.

I drew on plexiglass using posca pens and put the slabs against a hand drawn background. The cardboard cut outs are in front, giving the piece 3 layers
